The holidays are right around the corner, and if you’re scrambling to find a last-minute gift for the keyboard enthusiast in your life, you’re in the right place. A lot of the time it’s the small upgrades, the fun extras, or the “oh wow, I’ll actually use this” kind of gifts that land the hardest.

2025 has been packed with some seriously good keyboards, from new releases to round 2 runs of classics. So, before the year wraps up, I wanted to round up the ones that really stood out. Here’s my list of the best custom mechanical keyboards to try in 2025 (so far).

I’ve always liked low profile keyboards, and lately I’ve been getting to use a lot of them. I really like the feel of typing on a laptop when I am not at my desk, and when I want to sit back with a mouse and a keyboard it just feels right. Most of the time I’ve been using boards from NuPhy and Lofree, but Morgrie sent me the Air68 to check out and honestly, I didn’t know what to expect.
